Two Really Helpful Free Applications

I’ve always had problems with two issues – until lately.  And I found two applications that not only solve my problems, but solve them for free.

Xmarks – This a really cool application that let’s me not only keep my bookmarks (or favorites) synchronized between my home computer, work computer and iPhone, but it allows me to create profiles for each of those locations so that I can customize the list for each location.  Now I never have to look through to try and find out where I filed a bookmark on one of my computers or look for a bookmark that I have on one computer but not on the other.  Very cool stuff.

LastPass – This is another really handy, free application.  Managing passwords has become ever more complicated.  You hear all of the time about internet security and making your passwords really difficult by adding characters and numbers.  But then you’ve got to figure out how to remember them – when you need them.  LastPass does the job great, and it’s free.  It can also fill out forms for you and you can even keep secure notes.  Very nice.

These two applications have saved me lots of time and frustration.  Give them a try.  Do you use something else?

It’s That Time of Year

March 30th, 2009 Curt Will Posted in Personal No Comments »

My kids are on spring break.  One of the things that we’ve gotten to do since moving to paradise (Boca Raton, FL) is drive back to Chicago several times a year so that the kids and my wife and I, can see family, especially grandma and grandpa.  Despite the 22 – 25 hours of driving over two days, each way, it’s worth it because everyone enjoys getting together and it lessens the impact, just a bit, of the miles that separate us from our family.

My wife an I are taking a few days and working from my in-law’s cottage on Lake Delavan, WI.  While it’s no tropical paradise, it does have it’s upside.  Currently there are no children here, so it’s quiet, and it is quite beautiful as you can see from the picture.  You gotta love high speed internet.

We also had a mission on this trip up north.  I wanted to sell my sailboat.  We’ve all heard the old adage that the two best day’s in a man’s life is the day he buys a boat, and the day he sells his boat.  As it turns out, I can relate to that.  I sold my boat yesterday and it does feel good.  Oh, I’m really looking forward to buying another one some day.  But for now, it’s good not to have the distraction.
